Britney Spears has dealt with the scrutiny of everything from her performance changes, her kissing Madonna, and her pre-rehab actions to her hair, her ass, and her post-pregnancy weight
But more suggestive of the singer, the person, is the kind of tattoos she has chosen to permanently let her body sing; so why not scrutinize to the nth degree?
As they are described and depicted on Vanishing Tattoo, where Britney is ranked the # 52 on their Worlds Hottest 101 Women with Tattoos list, Brit’s tats include the following:
On the back of her neck, Britney has three Hebrew characters, which are small enough I can’t begin to research the intent, conscious or subconscious.
On her lower back is a fairy, which Vanishing Tattoo writers attribute to many possibilities—an icon of the mega-presence of corporate America [a.ka. Disney, et.al.]; a return to mythology, folklore, and literature [think Ariel in The Tempest?]; and or the more psychological underpinnings of a wee person with fantasies of magic and nostalgia for childhood.
In the middle and low on her stomach is a flower with the Chinese symbol meaning “mystery�—the flower itself in outline and undefined as any one type, thereby leaving the symbolism as it were to any number of interpretations, from suggestions of nature or nurture to color representation for passion and energy (red)
However, on her inside right hip is a small daisy (with something in its center I cannot identify), typically standing for “the innocence of childhood�…which we all understand in Brit’s case could be true longing for a lost opportunity to be a kid and/or can be an ironic play on her “not that innocent� persona of a couple of decades ago….
On her inside right hip is a tiny, tilted, ornamental cross in black, white, and pink, the cross having the more obvious meanings and the colors suggesting anything from the dark side, passion, and purity to the absence of all color, anger, and longing for that innocence.
On the inside of her left wrist is/was a pair of pink dice? I don’t see a pic, but let’s go with a metaphorical gambling/risk-taking theme, here?
A small star marks Brit’s right hand, with red and pink lips on the inside of the wrist—the star having multi-leveled meanings, from literal to figurative (and also depends, according to VT, on the number of points allowing light in and out); and the lips as another classic symbol of love…or lust.
A small daisy circles the second toe on her right foot, the daisy, again, for Britney possibly, suggesting a return to or reminder of innocent days gone by.
A butterfly flying from the vine appears on the top side of her left foot, the butterfly a feminine totem for everything from short life-span to instability of soul to, as friends with butterflies proudly tell me, the symbol of having successfully transformed, grown, evolved.
May Britney have all the comfort and continued success she craves, regardless of what messages she intends her tattoos to convey.
